SILK PILLOWS, ASTHMA AND ALLERGIES

Silk pillows have many advantages over other types of pillow. Firstly, good quality silk-filled pillows are 100% hypoallergenic, the silk being so pure that no dust mites or bed bugs can exist in it. This means that anyone using a pillow filled with silk will have no allergic reactions causing coughing and irritation in the lungs. This is provided that the silk interior is mulberry silk and not a lower grade silk such as tussah. Mulberry silk pillows are perfect for sufferers of asthma and similar lung diseases. However, even those of us who are lucky enough not to suffer from these afflictions will benefit from breathing in clean air whilst we sleep. Mulberry silk pillows are also perfect for sufferers of itchy skin complaints.

Mulberry silk is a 100% natural product which has been renowned for many centuries for its luxurious softness and warmth. It is created from the cocoon of the silk moth.

Today, tussah silk is also produced commercially in both Japan and China.  The silkworms are fed on a diet including oak and privet, which contain tannin and it is tannin which gives Tussah silk a darker colour.

Silk filled pillows in silk pillowcases Long strand mulberry silk is the strongest natural fibre and is made from silk produced by captive silk worms fed entirely on mulberry leaves. The process is intense and skilled. The silk it produces is composed of sericin and amino acids, which are so good for our skin and hair, making it a wonderful, luxurious product to use in the production of pillows.

If you usually sleep on a pillow with a cotton pillowcase you may notice that you sometimes get `sleep creases`, as the pillowcase pulls on your skin whilst you sleep. Our skin becomes more fragile with age so sleeping on a silk pillow with a silk pillowcase covering it will prevent further damage to your skin.

The `silkiness` of the silk will also prevent your hair from getting the split ends which can be caused by rubbing against a cotton pillowcase. Using a pillow that is itself filled with mulberry silk and a silk pillowcase too is doubly beneficial. Silk is a good temperature regulator, too, so that it keeps you cool during warm weather and warm during cool weather. Silk pillows are ideal for menopausal women who may suffer from `hot flushes `as it will keep the body temperature on a more even keel.
